Police car also shared in the chunks: two men in stolen car arrested after wild chase in Ostend (Ostend)

Panic on Saturday around 11 am on the R31 at the intersection with the Zandvoordestraat and Kreekstraat. Two vehicles that were waiting at the height of the red light to continue driving at the green light were suddenly rammed by a white Skoda. It turned out to be from the construction company of Huele in the Zandvoordestraat. The car turned out to be stolen earlier at the Vuurtorenwijk a few kilometers from where the accident happened.

After the collision, the driver of the Skoda lost control of the steering wheel and rammed a traffic light on the corner of Kreekstraat. The driver and the passenger of the car then put it on a walk and fled the Zandvoordestraat. One of the two crashed cars was driven by a civilian inspector.

« I was on my way to work and at the height of the red lights I was ready to turn left towards Zandvoordestraat, » says the police inspector who would rather stay anonymous. « Next to me was another car that wanted to drive straight ahead. Both cars were suddenly hit by a white Skoda. After the collision, the car came to a halt against a traffic light across the street. Two men jumped out of the car and put it on a walk. »

Collision

The police inspector immediately started the chase. The two suspects also followed other police vehicles that participated in the chase. « At the intersection of the Zandvoordestraat with Nieuwedokstraat, I collided with a colleague on the motorcycle when we both got the perpetrator in sight, » the man continues. « One of them was still against my car and then fled further. »

A block further, the police was able to grasp one of the suspects. The other suspect was also eventually caught. In the meantime, the entire intersection was closed to traffic. That caused some traffic nuisance. The police inspector’s car suffered a lot of damage on the side. Another police car was also damaged. A total of four cars were involved in the incident. A few streets further the two perpetrators could eventually be caught by the police. The other car that was hit – a BMW – was driven by a thirties. The woman was taken to the hospital in shock. Her car was also badly damaged by the collision.

The police confirm the whole story. « Around 10 o’clock our services received a stolen vehicle on the Hendrik Baelskaai, » says Eline Goeminne of the Ostend police. “We immediately investigated via the ANPR cameras. Half an hour after the report, a motorcyclist from the police received the vehicle in sight, after which the chase was immediately started. When the driver took the flight, several teams came into social assistance. The stolen vehicle eventually came to a standstill against a traffic light, after several vehicles were held up and are currently being held.”

The police made the findings and drafted the necessary official reports. The investigation into the facts is still ongoing.
