Police are looking for witnesses for cat injuries
An unknown animal torture has deliberately injured three cats within a few days. This became known because a veterinarian treated the animals and reported the incident. As the police said, the unknown perpetrator cut three cats with a sharp knife, possibly a scalpel or cutter knife, into the joints and in the stomach. The injuries had to be sewn. According to the police, the cats affected were trusting and used to humans. The acts must have occurred between April 26 and May 7.
Elke Stehle is the chair of the Velvet Pfoten Katzenhilfe Ries, who takes care of overgrown cats in the region and has them neutered. When asked about this incident, Stehle says: « I find it very terrifying, it shocked me. » That in the Region of frequent cases of cruelty to animals occurStehle does not see: « I would see it rather inconspicuously. » However, there are cases in which people shot with air rifles, for example, that their neighbor had recently drove to the vet because of a different matter with his cat. The X -ray found that it was probably shot two years ago that several balls were found. But often the animals did not survive.

Stehle says: « Is the question that you have a sadistic animal torture in the neighborhood or a militant gardener? » Stehle says she lives in the country, she knew that cats also go to the beds, but in such cases you can talk to each other, address your neighbors – something like that is not justified: « You don’t have to hurt animals full of frustration and hatred, you can talk to each other. » It is quite difficult to get to the trail of animal rivals because you can hardly notify what happened on private ground. « In cats, the difference to the dog is that there are often missing cats who never come back. For example, if they have become victims of a traffic accident, they withdraw. »
North of the police chief Andreas Schröter does not know exactly how the cats are doing, but suspects that the veterinarian could treat her accordingly. In any case, the manner and the places in which the cats were injured did not indicate possible accidents with agricultural machines, which is why the police are now investigating. Basically, the education is difficult if nobody has observed anything: « There are hardly any traces not to see DNA. If the animals and the wounds have been treated, evidence is almost impossible. » One could only philosophize about the alleged perpetrators, but Schröter does not run out of a larger series.

Caroline Zehpfennig-Doleczik is the chair of the Animal Welfare Association Nördlingen and the surrounding area. She does not have information about cruelty to animals in the Ries, they would only be switched on if the veterinary office contact the association and the animal shelter. « I don’t understand why you do it. Why do you have to be such a sadist? » Ten-pfennig-Doleczik and Stehle appeal that people should display such cases in order to draw attention to cruelty to animals, possibly also anonymously.
