Pole’s flight into space shifted. A new date was given
The mission will be attended by: Peggy Whitson (USA)-commander, Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski (Poland/ESA)-a specialist in the mission, Shubhanshu Shukla (India)-pilot and tibor kapu (Hungary)-a mission specialist. Astronauts will spend two weeks at an international space station (ISS). The crew will carry out experiments on, among others Impact of microgravity on the human body, land observation and fuels of the future. The Polish Ignis mission, implemented under AX-4, includes 13 experiments in the field of medicine, biology, biotechnology and engineering sciences.
Pole’s flight into space. What will the Polish astronaut take with him?
Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski intends to take with him an equipment filled with objects of symbolic for Poles:
- Polish flags,
- patch from the suit Mirosław Hermaszewski,
- souvenirs of Maria Skłodowska-Curie,
- map from the work of Nicolaus Copernicus De revolutionibus orbium coelestium,
- a lump of salt from Wieliczka,
- a piece of Polish amber,
- manuscript of Mazurka Fryderyk Chopin,
- Three poems by Wisława Szymborska,
- Krajka from the regional outfit of the Lodz region from the Ethnographic Museum in Warsaw,
- Polish letters (ą, ć, ę, ł etc.) printed in 3D,
- emblems and mission poster.
A second Pole in space
Dr Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski will be the second Pole in space after Mirosław Hermaszewski, who from June 27 to July 5, 1978 took part in the Sojuz 30 mission. During an eight-day flight, together with Piotr Klimuk (Soviet cosmonmet of Belarusian origin), they performed 126 laps.
