Poles died at a construction site in Germany. First conclusions after the tragedy
Tragic events took place on Tuesday, May 20, around noon during the construction of a road bridge in Horb in Baden-Wirtenbergia. Wojtek M. († 45 years old), Łukasz O. († 40 years old) and Frank S. († 46 years old) were in the transport elevator, which brought employees to the place of works. The gondola was at an altitude of about 50 meters, when it suddenly fell down, shattering on the ground. When the emergency services arrived, the employees were dead.

As « Bild » describes, the steel rope raising the elevator upstairs. The cabin with three men on board hit the asphalt at a speed of about 100 km/h.
Currently, the determination of which the steel rope has been broken for. According to experts, it is impossible for the cable to break up due to consumption. – Such a steel rope could probably withstand ten times greater weight. In addition, the equipment is checked regularly, high consumption would be noticed – says Friedhelm Schwicker from the DEKRA expert organization.
– According to the current state of the investigation, there are preliminary premises indicating that the steel rope of the transport gondola has accosted crossing steel ropes during the transport of construction workers upstairs and broke on the further section. There is a study of circumstances in which this could have happened – said on Thursday, May 22, in the afternoon Markus Wagner, spokesman for the prosecutor’s office in Rottweil. In connection with the ongoing investigation, work at the construction site was suspended until the end of the week.

Łukasz and Wojtek were to return to their families at the weekend
According to « Bild », Łukasz O. and Wojtek M. joined the 70-member construction team just two weeks ago.
– Most of us have been working here for two years. No one has ever had an accident – one of the workers told Bild. He added that Poles were to return to their families at the weekend. They waited impatiently when they see their loved ones again. Each of them was a husband and father.
