Poland is preparing for war
Poland prepares for the war, titrate Politico.eu. Ever since Poland has revealed its goal to train every adult man for the war, being a Polish passport holder has gained another sense.
« There is nothing to be afraid of! » Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk teased American actor Jesse Eisenberg in a video on social networks. Eisenberg, 41 years old, received Polish citizenship earlier this month for his role in a « Real Pain », an Oscar nominated drama about alienated Jewish cousins who meet for a Holocaust tournament.
Poland has spent almost two centuries as a colony of Moscow and retains a deep concern for the country. The widespread invasion of Ukraine by Russia in 2022 triggered this concern.
Warsaw is now the largest NATO spent in defense, with 4.7% of GDP, has the largest Army of the EU and spends billions of euros on planes, missiles, tanks, artillery and more.
Now, the state is preparing its population for the war, writes the publication.
If a large -scale conflict broke out, Poland does not have the strategic depth of other European countries, said the head of the General Staff of Polish armed forces, General Wiesław Kukuła, for Politico.
« We are neighbors with the Russian Federation and her Aliant Belarus, so we do not have a buffer between us and them and we only have a limited time to prepare and answer, » Kukuła said.
Poland intends to double its army to half a million soldiers and train millions of reservists, Tusk told the Parliament in early March.
« By the end of the year, we want to have a ready -made model, so that every adult man in Poland is trained for the war and so that this reserve is suitable for possible threats, » Tusk said in Parliament, adding that women can register.
The training will be voluntary, he said, trying to compensate for concerns about the return to the extremely unpopular recruitment policy, which ended in 2008.
For Poland, a country with high incomes, with some of the strongest economic growth rates in the EU, the transition to the preparation for fighting will mark a change of mentality – and many of its citizens are eager to start.
« I really want to go through training and, if it is, fueled by hatred for (Russian President Vladimir) Putin, I want to defend my house, to shoot them and make a hell life, » said Marek, a 37 -year -old media producer from Warsaw.
« I want to defend everything I worked, everything I built. In this country I won my house, my own place, my safe space and no Russian bastard will take this. They can return from where they came from. »
Modus operandi
The details are still developed by the army, which are expected to propose a plan by the end of March, Kukuła said. The legislative works are expected to start soon after.
Authorities intend to launch short -term military training programs for civilians without previous experience, informs the newspaper Rzeczpospolitan. These intensive courses, which last only a few days, will introduce participants in the fundamental elements of civil defense, first aid and selected military abilities.
For those with previous military training, the Government offers specific training courses designed to sharpen the specialized skills, including the competence in firearms, fighter medicine and terrestrial navigation.
Civilists who seek more comprehensive training can register in a one month training program, available in both personal and online format.
« The first (objective of the training program) is to improve the availability and quality of reservists, » said Kukuła. « Currently, the army has a large number of reservists, but their average age is already around 45. If the conflict and pressure on Poland persists for a long time, the resources of well -trained reservists will be essential to ensure that they can operate with professional soldiers and territorial defense forces. »
The initial plan is to prepare 100,000 people by the end of 2026, he said.
« The second goal is even more important – we have to prepare the society for the effects of a crisis, even if not everyone is following military training, » he said.
But time may not be on the side of Poland, warn some high-ranking military personalities.
« (Russians) build a massive army in the back. If peace is not reached and split in NATO continuous, Russia will attack the Baltic states, » said the former deputy chief of the General Staff of the Polish armed forces, General Leon Komornnicki. « This could happen at the end of this year or at the beginning of the future. An invasion is part of their plan. »
Jarosław Kraszewski, former commander of the ground forces of rockets, rockets and artillery in Poland, told Radio Zet that Tusk’s plan was too little, too late.
« Training 100,000 people a year? Too few. We should bring back (promotion), » the general said. « I went to a consumerist lifestyle, to the joys of democracy and I traveled smoothly around the world, but I forgot that each of us should have basic knowledge in this field. »
