The head of Solina Adam Piątkowski intervenes with Prime Minister Donald Tusk regarding the bear, because, as he says, there is nothing to wait for.
« Who will take responsibility for the tragedy that can happen? » – asks the head of the village, quoting a letter sent to the head of the government. Signatures collected among the inhabitants of a five -thousand commune joined the petition. The collection lasted two weeks. The commune has had a problem with bears for several years.
– I wrote to the prime minister with a request for support because I am already helpless. All previous actions, i.e. scoring, repelling and catching predators have not brought results. People demand specific actions, they are afraid of their lives – added Piątkowski.

The head of Solina believes that you must first count bears living in the Bieszczady Mountains, and then, where there are too many of them, reduce the population.
– The official data is that there are about 100 bears, but this is not the right number. Hunters and foresters say that at least 300, and I believe them – said the head of Solina.
And multiply examples of situations when these predatory mammals pose a threat to people.
– Recently, a patient from Polańczyk went to one of the viewpoints, but he had to run away because the bear chased him. Once the bear passed through the kindergarten fence, and children had fun outside. The estate where I live has over 30 houses. There is no property that the bear would not visit – says Piątkowski.
Niedźwiedzica killed 21 goats
After mid -April this year. Niedźwiedzica killed 21 goats in one of the ecological farms, the head of the commune submitted a request to shoot five individuals. He is still waiting for the decision of the General Director for Environmental Protection.
– I don’t care about killing the bears, but I am 60 years old and something like now, it wasn’t yet – emphasized Piątkowski.
« I hope our voice will finally be heard. » Others deal with the problem why we can’t – added the head of Solina.
For example, Slovakia, where the Minister of the Environment announced, even half of the half of the bear’s population in this country.
The head of Solina also counts on changing the rules. Currently, only the police can use a smoothbore weapon with rubber bullets. They have an overwhelming effect, because hitting them is very painful.
-But so what, since it is 30-40 km to the nearest police station. Before a policeman arrives, the bear will escape – explains the head of Solina.
The Solina commune got permission to deter bears, but residents can only use firecrackers, bang pistols and paintball.
This type of ammunition, however, is ineffective, as admits to the General Director of Environmental Protection Piotr Otawski. Therefore, an amendment to the Act on nature protection has been prepared, which assumes that in justified cases the police will be able to issue a permit for smooth -sized weapons and used rubber missiles for bearing scares.
– I would like the rules to enter into force until the end of the year. For now, they are waiting in the queue for the MPs to take care of them – said Piotr Otawski.
GDOŚ prepares a project
GDOŚ also prepares a project that assumes the establishment of a special intervention group for monitoring, and in the case of a threat to people, scaresing bears.
– We are in the preparation phase, we talk to the Podkarpackie voivode and, among others Regional Directorate of State Forests in Krosno. We would like the project to start in autumn – added Otawski.
The project will also include provisions on the education of residents.
– For example, to properly secure composters and garbage cans. If bears do not have easy access to food, there is a chance that they will stop coming to built -up areas – explains GDOŚ.
Asked whether he would allow five bears in the Bieszczady Mountains, he replied that « we allow the possibility of consent to this type of activity, but we treat them as a last resort. »
