Plenkovic: The aggressor should not be awarded the territory of another country, it would be scary
The rewarding of the aggressors by indulging in the conquered territory would be a « frightening precedent » that would have negative consequences for global management, Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said on Tuesday at a gathering in Copenhagen, dominated by the topic of the Ukraine War.
Plenkovic participated in the Copenhagen Democracy Summit, launched by former Danish Prime Minister and NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, in the Danish capital. He spoke at the panel « European Defense of Ukraine – What is at Cube? ».
The answer to this question for the Croatian Prime Minister is primarily an international order based on law, multilateralism and mutual respect and EU and NATO reputation.
« It is important that the one who is more powerful, who is the aggressor, is not awarded the territory of another country, » Plenkovic said. Such the outcome of the war in Ukraine would give the « green light to the abusers » and would be « scary precedent ».
This would « virtually open up the possibility of anyone to look around, see that someone is a little weaker, so he takes a part of the territory he likes, » said the Croatian Prime Minister on the sidelines together, which will later feature a movie that imagines what Chinese invasion of Taiwan would look like.

The Prime Minister welcomed the announcement of possible peace negotiations in Istanbul, expressing his understanding about the desire of Ukraine to receive solid security guarantees. Plenkovic understands that Kiev is « skeptical » about potential Russian promises because he agreed to surrender his nuclear arsenal from the Soviet era 30 years ago in exchange for the security guarantees of world forces, including Russia, and several decades later Ukraine becomes the target of aggression.
Plenkovic believes that now the main goal is to strengthen the Ukrainian army so that it can defend the state from possible future attacks. Russia, on the other hand, has a « recruitment capacity that no one has » that gives it a « huge advantage, » the Prime Minister continued. Russian victims are also « dispersed » in the great Russian territory, which is why there is no « EHA in public that these losses are a more serious problem » that could shake the cream.
Plenkovic said at Panel that it was crucial to understand that US President Donald Trump believes that Russian aggression in Ukraine is a consequence of the weakness of the previous Democratic Governments of Prime Minister Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
The Republican, therefore, now wants to achieve peace in Ukraine as soon as possible, which puts the quality of that peace in the background, and whether the final agreement will imply the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
‘We understand Denmark’s existence’
On Tuesday, Plenkovic also said that Croatia understands Denmark, one of the most attractive United States in Europe, statements by US President Donald Trump to take over Greenland, but also expressed a belief that a solution to that dispute will be found through dialogue.
US President Donald Trump repeats the desire to take over Greenland, not rejecting that it will be done by force if he fails to acquire it financially. He last did this in an interview with the NBC late last week, saying that he « did not reject » a military solution to take over the Danish autonomous territory, which, as he says, is « urgent ».
On Tuesday, Plenkovic said at the Mrgins Copenhagen Democracy Summit, that Croatia « understands » and is « with Denmark ».
He recalled the existence of an agreement between Copenhagen and Washington of the 1950s, which gives the US the possibility of military strengthening of Greenland, the world’s largest island, where there is already an American base.
Plenkovic expressed his belief that a solution would be found through a peaceful dialogue, and reminded that Denmark is one of the European countries « the most beautiful transatlantic cooperation » and the « most loyal partners of the US », and that therefore understands her leadership of such signals from Washington.
Former NATO Secretary General and Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen at the rally said that Copenhagen was always a « good and reliable ally » Washington and that « to say the opposite of the Danes who stood side by side with the USA and gave their lives. »
« But today, the values that we are together are replaced by words from historical textbooks – territorial expansion, spheres of influence, real stronger and, of course – America in the first place, » said Rasmussen, the initiator of that conference.
After participating in the gathering, Plenkovic met with the Danish Prime Minister of Mette Frederixen. On the eve of that meeting, he said that Croatia and Denmark have a trade exchange of about 450 million euros – Denmark exports about 300 million to Croatia, and Croatia in Denmark 150 million euros.
The Prime Minister announced that he would talk to Frederixen about the strengthening of Croatian exports to Denmark, and expressed his desire for Danish investments such as that of Maeska, the largest shipping company in the world investing in the port of Rijeka, « emphasizes the Croatian role of the Mediterranean Gate of Europe », which Croatia is.
Because of this, the Government is investing in Rijeka and other Adriatic ports and in the railway infrastructure, in order to significance the Croatian position as a « shortest path » to Central Europe for large maritime directions.
