Plan of GroenLinks-PvdA and VVD must save task broadcaster NTR

The task broadcaster NTR, known for programs such as Nieuwsuur, Klokhuis, the Top 2000 à Gogo and the Sinterklaasjournaal, must be saved. GroenLinks-PvdA and the VVD will together submit a motion with this scope on April 14, when the House of Representatives debates about the plan of Minister Eppo Bruins (Education, Culture and Science, NSC) for the reform of the public broadcaster. The motion states that the NTR programming, which focuses on art and culture, youth and education, science and information, is needed in addition to the NOS to guarantee the independent nature of the public broadcaster.

Bruins sent his long -awaited letter last Friday about the reform of the public broadcaster to the Lower House. He wants to adjust the current order on important points. The current thirteen (prospective) broadcasters must be merged to four to five broadcasters, which will form the order together with the NOS and the NPO. New broadcasters will no longer be able to join the order in the future, which actually ends the external pluriformity.

‘Heart from the public broadcaster’

The news that the NTR would disappear came as a surprise for most people involved in Hilversum and The Hague. NTR director Lucas Goes was shocked. « As if you get the heart from the public broadcaster, » he told it Ad. Even the VVD, which is part of the coalition as a party, was in the dark about Bruins’ plans. In the plan that the VVD presented last year for a future -proof public broadcaster, the Task Exhausts NOS and NTR would go together. « We wanted the public broadcaster to return to the core tasks of the task broadcasters, » says VVD MP Claire Martens-America.

Mohammed Mohandis, the media spokesperson for GroenLinks-PvdA, is the initiator of the motion. He was furious when he heard that the NTR would disappear, he says in an interview with NRC That will be published later this week and in which he presents his own plans for the public broadcaster. « It is not for nothing that we created the task broadcasters, » says Mohandis. « That was intended to distinguish the public broadcaster from the commercial channels. I prefer that the Sinterklaas journal is made by a neutral task broadcaster than from the lake ideological perspective of a broadcaster like BNNVARA or unheard of the Netherlands. »
