PJ searches in the Montijo City Council
The Setúbal Judicial Police (PJ) searched the Montijo City Hall on Tuesday and a company. At issue are suspected of corruption in the adjudication of public works without compliance with the rules of public hiring.
According to a PJ statement, there are “facts likely to embody corruption crimes, economic participation in business and abuse of power, related to the replacement of the pavement of a playground in the Montijo Municipal Park, whose value surrounds 250 thousand euros”.
« The Municipality, in order to circumvent the obligations arising from public hiring, instead of having performed a single procedure through a public tender, performed two distinct procedures through prior consultation, and the contracts were awarded to the same company, » reads in the statement, quoted by the agency Lusa.
The Mayor of Montijo confirmed searches “related to public hiring processes of municipal works, which took place from 2021 to 2023”.
“The Montijo City Council is collaborating with the PJ to provide all the necessary clarifications requested by the competent authorities and will take all legal initiatives at its disposal for the holding of inquiries and the decision making that is justified,” adds Maria Clara Silva in a note.
