PJ advances with searches in public bodies
The Judiciary Police (PJ) is conducting, on Thursday morning, a mega operation in Lisbon, Porto and Braga, which involve 75 search and seizure warrants.
« Diligences take place in the area of Greater Lisbon, Porto and Braga, namely in households, accounting offices, headquarters, public institutes and other state services. These searches are intended for collecting information related to employees of these services and did not aim at political decision makers, » can be read in a PJ note sent to the newsrooms.
At issue are conduct related to services acquisitions in the area of information technology “by various public entities and a private entity, between 2017 and 2025”, says the PJ, adding that, at the center of the investigation, “there are a set of individuals who, in conjugation of efforts and in a premeditated manner, addicted to dozens of public and private hiring procedures, in a total global amount
not less than 17 000 000.00 € (seventeen million euros) ”.
Facts may be related to various types of crimes, such as “economic participation in business, illegitimate access with violation of
Confidentiality, abuse of power, active and passive corruption, falsification of documents, computing falsehood, fraud in obtaining subsidy, qualified tax fraud, trafficking in influence, criminal association and crime debuting ”.
In the searches, about 250 inspectors, three prosecutors and 50 police experts are involved.
