Piraeus welcomes the Piraeus Port Run Road Race

A new era for the Vartzakio Race, which under the new name, Piraeus Port Run, with a new identity, new routes and great innovations, will take place on Sunday, May 4, at 9:00, in the city of Piraeus.

For the race inspired by the Piraeus Health Runners Association in honor of Piraeus Runner, Christos Vartzakis, a member of the Runners Association, a press conference was given at the Foyer of the Piraeus Municipal Theater. Piraeus Mayor Yiannis Moralis, the Municipal Councilor of Sports Nikos Gemelos, the President of the Piraeus Health Runners Association Angelos Samios, the Press and Public Relations Spokesman of the Piraeus Runners Association of Piraeus Piraeus Piraeus Piraeus Piraeus Piraeus Piraeus Sotiris Sotiris.

The race, which is dedicated to the Runners of Hope this year, is co -organized by the Piraeus Health Runners Association, the Municipality of Piraeus and the Municipal Sports Directorate, while Myrace has the technical address.

It is an important institution for the sports events of Piraeus and is addressed not only to experienced but also to beginner runners, giving them the opportunity to run on a unique route and enjoy running on the coastal front of Piraeus, Piraeus and Pasalimani and Pasalimani.

Piraeus Port Run includes 5 and 10km races for adults and 1 kilometer for children.

Piraeus welcomes the Piraeus Port Run Road Race

Piraeus Mayor Yiannis Moralis, in his address, stressed:

« Piraeus Port Run 2025 is the historic Vartzakios road, which was first held in 1986 in honor of Piraeus Marathon Master Christos Vartzakis. This year he returns renewed, under a new name, always honoring the many years of Christos Vartzakis, with new routes and aspiring to make Piraeus, as a sports destination for both the runners of our country and for runners from around the world.

Piraeus champion of the Marathon and Balkan Champion Nikos Polia, who has many years of experience in organizing racing racing, has contributed to this effort to renew and extroversion.

For us this race can be one of the biggest sporting events in Piraeus on a yearly basis, which we want all of us involved in this event. The Municipality of Piraeus and the Directorate of Sport, led by Nikos Gemellos, will continue to support it with all our might.

I would like to congratulate the Piraeus Health Runners Association of the largest mass sports club in Piraeus, which has been offering our city and the development of the road movement for about 40 years.

Piraeus is a city of sports, with many clubs and many awards in team or individual sports. Our goal is to organize or host large sports events that make people fun and come closer to sports on the one hand.

We are very pleased to announce that this summer the major sporting events are continuing in the city center, the Piraeus Street Long Jump in front of the Municipal Theater in collaboration with SEGAS, the Beach Volley Tournament in Korai Square with the Hellenic Federation of Volleyball and Beach Handball.

Executive Sports Councilor Nikos Gemelos noted:

« The Municipality of Piraeus has Mayor Yiannis Moralis, who is a sports man. It is very important for the event to be held in a sports municipality, such as our municipality, where a large number of its city councilors comes from sports. The health runners for us are the Piraeus Road Movement, with Christos Vartzakis being the one who gave the « start » for the road movement. We cannot think of Piraeus without sports, which means health and culture, so the participation of all of us in the Piraeus port run is important. « 

The president of the Piraeus Health Runners Association Angelos Samios, in his address, stressed:

« In recent years there has been the need to become something new, something different. For this reason we made the decision to postpone two events and study something new. The work we all do has borne fruit and we are ready for the 1st Piraeus Port Run. I’m talking about 1st because for the first time we have this title. In previous events the title was a Varcaeian road. We do not forget the late Christos Vartzakis, the race is dedicated to his memory and will always be.

Making a brief historical overview, we started in the 1990s with the round of Piraeus, hand in hand with the homonymous municipality. The first finish in the race was the Marathon runner Nikos Polias, who is very responsible for what we will see and live on Sunday, May 4th. The race changes the page, it comes in a new era. The distances are changing and the routes are a little changed, many things change. I urge the whole world to participate in the Piraeus Port Run to enjoy a unique race. « 

Press and Public Relations spokesman of Piraeus Health Runners Association Sotiris Kakia said:

« I would like to thank Piraeus Mayor Yiannis Moralis and the whole municipal » family « who has embraced us all these years as a Vartzakian race. Now, we have opened a new page and « Vartzakios » was renamed Piraeus Port Run, in which we invite all Piraeus on May 4 to participate »

Piraeus Port Run Coordinator Nikos Polias pointed out:

« I feel very happy because I am part of this new effort to upgrade Piraeus’s iconic struggle in memory of Christos Vartzakis. Our collaboration with Piraeus and the Municipality of Piraeus has already begun to bear fruit and I am sure that in the coming years the race will acquire its true dimensions, contributing to the extroversion of the city.

I have grown sports in the neighborhoods of the Hadjikyriaki, I have been a member of the two top sports clubs in the city of the Piraeus Association and Olympiacos, having won 7 marathon championships and feel very happy that I will now be actively contributing to our city. I call on young and old, systematic runners and ordinary athletes to participate in piraeusportrun.gr and become part of this great sporting event next Sunday, May 4th. Already, the number of entries has exceeded 1,200, and the registration period ends on Wednesday, April 30, at 14:00. Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to our dozens of volunteers who will staff the various positions of the race and in Piraeus Traffic for excellent cooperation. «
