The pilot of an F-16 fighter plane died in Ukraine. The 26-year-old Pawlo Iwanow died on Saturday with an F-16 fighter mission, the Ukrainian Air Force said in the Telegram online service. « He was killed in action when he defended his home country against the invaders. » It is the second death of a Ukrainian F-16 pilot since delivery of the fighter jets made in the USA to Ukraine last summer.

A commission should clarify « all circumstances of the tragedy ». « Ukrainian pilots work up to the boundary of their human and technical possibilities, risk their lives every time they fly their fighting. Pawlo was one of them, » said the army.

The Ukrainian President Wolodymyr Selenskij expressed his sympathy for the pilot family. « We examine all circumstances, » he said in online services.
Ukraine had received the first F-16 from its western allies last summer after the government in Kiev had asked for two years. In August 2024, Kiev announced that an F-16 crashed in the defense against a Russian rocket attack and the pilot was killed.
