– The situation was serious, because wood, unlike, for example, metal or plastic, is subject to putrefactive processes. Located within the face, close to the brain structures, it can lead to serious neurological complications and even the threat to life – explains dr hab. Bogusława Orzechowska-Wylęgała, maxillofacial surgeon in GCZD.
On June 12, a team of maxillofacial surgeons from GCZD has performed a foreign body removal at the boyduring which electromagnetic navigation was used.
« This is an advanced technology that, based on a previous tomographic study, enables surgeons to extremely precise planning and conducting operations with the least interference in the child’s body. Thanks to this method, doctors effectively removed several fragments from the cheek, ensuring that there is no scar on the boy’s face. The patient has left our hospital in good health last Friday » – informs the hospital.
The Upper Silesian Children’s Health Center reminds that this is another example of a spectacular and effective surgery carried out by maxillofacial surgeons from this institution.
