Women’s strike: Throughout Switzerland, it is demonstrated for more “real equality” today
Every year on June 14th, demonstrators draw attention to the rights of women. This year, too, thousands went on the streets to demonstrate for fair wages, equality and a better reconciliation of family and work.
Feminist strike takes place annually on June 14th. This year the strike day falls on a Saturday. The demonstrators call for the expansion of childcare and measures to protect against sexual harassment at the workplace. The Swiss Trade Union Confederation (SGB) had called for feminist strikes under the motto « No back – together for more equality ».
The SGB demanded measures from employers and politics so that real equality was finally realized, because this was far from being achieved, he wrote in advance. In professions and industries with a predominant proportion of women, workers would continue to be paid less and every second woman experiences sexual harassment at work.
