Picnic no longer supplies Duisburger problem-high-rise

The food delivery service Picnic is initially avoiding a focal center in Duisburg as a « white giant ». According to its own statements, the online supermarket has no longer delivered to the 320 apartments of the address Ottostraße 58-64 since the beginning of May. There were two incidents « that affected the security of our employees, » said Picnic founder Frederic Knaudt. He did not give any further details.

« Since the security of our team is a top priority for us, we have exposed the deliveries to this address until further notice, » said Knaudt. You stand in exchange with the police. If more secure delivery conditions are guaranteed, the delivery will be continued again. The “WAZ” had previously reported.

According to the newspaper, residents want to have seen that young people stole food from Picnic vehicles while the drivers were in the building. Picnic did not want to confirm this on request. The Duisburg police have not been known to the Duisburg police since the beginning of January in connection with the delivery service. However, this does not rule out that something had happened, said a spokesman. According to Knaudt, Picnic is still checking whether a complaint is filed.

DHL temporarily stopped delivery

The area in the west of Duisburg had been in the headlines several times. The DHL parcel service announced in July 2024 not to deliver any shipments to the high -rise – out of concern for the safety of the employees. Deleters were threatened, it said. Two months later, DHL continued the delivery, but only on two days a week and accompanied by a security service.

Since mid -February, the company has been releasing packages at the front door again – « where it is possible and justifiable », as a spokeswoman says. In October 2024 a packing station was built in the immediate vicinity. This is used by many customers.

Large control reveals dozens of cases of social fraud

There have been further incidents in the recent past. At the end of October, the regulatory office and the police carried out great control in the high -rise building. Employees of the foreigners’ registration office, the staff position for social service abuse and the job center were also involved in the campaign in the “White Giant”.

According to the city, around 400 officials had gone from door to door and had checked who actually lives there – and whoever is only reported to the appearance there to obtain social benefits. Almost 600 of the approximately 1,400 reported residents were found during the check. The authorities found a few dozen cases of alleged child benefit fraud. According to the Federal Employment Agency, payments for 59 children were hired.

According to the Duisburg police, there were 128 missions and 54 criminal charges at the high -rise between September 2024 and early February this year. Measured by the number of residents, this is not particularly noticeable, said a spokesman.
