The state subsidy for renewable production should be linked to stricter requirements and thus become more targeted, says Economic Minister Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer. How the funding continues in detail should be clear until summer.

Climate and environmental funding is an area in which the federal government shortens relatively strongly in its budget consolidation. « We have to reduce government spending. Therefore, we will critically question all funding that we pay out. If these are pouring can promotions that have zero steering effect, or do they make sense? » Says Economic Minister Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer on Friday. It is already clear that the measures for energy efficiency and the climate and energy funds will be a minus of 286.6 million euros this year due to « needs-based redimation ». 1.1 billion euros are to be saved in this area over the entire financial framework. And by setting the gas diversification funding, another 72 million euros are saved, said Hattmannsdorfer.

However, all other funding in the climate and energy sector is currently being put to the test, the minister continued. For example, market prices for photovoltaic systems have dropped by one third in the past two years. « In the past ten years it has even been a minus of 90 percent. So there is no need for funding from the watering can. » Which funding is redimated is therefore to be checked by the responsible State Secretary Elisabeth Zehetner by summer.

Stricter funding requirements

But even if funding is not shortened quantitatively, there should be higher quality requirements, says Hattmannsdorfer. « From autumn we will make stronger requirements in terms of storage or a certain degree of digitization of the system in order to receive funding. » This is intended to create steering effects towards better integration of renewable electricity production into the energy system. « In the future, stable prices and security security should be equally important in energy policy as ecologization, » says Hattmannsdorfer.

However, there should be no reduction in the transformation fund for industry, which is endowed with EUR 2.9 billion by 2042. However, there are still too few projects here that meet the criteria. Therefore, the volume will reduce almost 300 million euros from the originally planned to EUR 121 million this year. His predecessor « negotiated a lot of money here, but did not know how to bring it into the market ». However, the resources saved would not be eliminated, but pushed into the future. Because the renovation of the industry is important and safe future tax revenue.

Minister cannot print money

There is less good news from Voest boss Herbert Eibensteiner loudly demanded electricity price compensation for energy-intensive companies. « The need for energy -intensive industry is at the top of the agenda. We will see what kind of offer we can do, » says Hattmannsdorfer. At the same time, the Minister of Economy could not print any money in the ministry’s basement. This also applies to the criticism recently expressed by economists and business representatives that there are too few growth -promoting measures in the budget that has now been presented.

Such a measure provided for in the government program is the reduction in non-wage costs by an at least partial transfer of the family load compensation fund to the budget from 2027. However, this is under budget reservation. And as Finance State Secretary Barbara Eibinger-Miedl recently said in the « Press » interview, this will be « difficult ». Hattmannsdorfer does not want to give an estimate of the probability of this reduction. Only: « We are clearly committed to reducing the non -wage costs. As soon as there is the scope for it, we have to use it too. »
