To celebrate the visual excellence of its photographers, the Nasa – the US space agency – announced the winners of the competition « Photographer of the Year 2024« , Rewarding the shots that best tell, in a human and technical key, the fascinating universe of space missions.

Between intense portraits of astronauts, training sessions and celestial suggestions, the work of Josh Valcarcel: His six photographs have been selected for narrative and visual quality.
From the close -ups of the astronauts Nichole « Vapor« Ayers And Zena Cardman At the scenes behind the scenes of the Artemis missions, each shot is a window on the world – mostly invisible – of the preparation for the space flight.
A job that earned him the title of « photographer of the year », having won in all categories of the competition, except for the one dedicated to « places ».
Huntsville, the « city of the rocket », under a blue superluna
In the image you see above it is portrayed HUNTSVILLEAmerican city in Dell ‘Alabama (renamed « Rocket City« ) Above which – on August 19 – a rare natural show was staged: a superluna – among the largest and most bright of the year – which designed a silver arch above the silos and platforms of the Marshall Space Flight Center from the Nasa.
But that wasn’t any full moon. It was in fact a blue moon, a rare event that, in astronomy, indicates the third full moon within a season that exceptionally counts four.
The name can deceive – the color of our satellite does not change – but the visual and symbolic effect remains surprising, capable of transforming the landscape and turning on the imagination.
