Photo chaos in Orahovica: ‘heavy rain flooded everything. Water reached the first houses, evacuating people ‘
The heavy rain flooded the area of Orahovica and the surrounding area in Virovitica-Podravina County, and the water came to the houses, which is why they urgently evacuate people.
Due to the weather, an emergency session of the Civil Protection Headquarters, which was also attended by Deputy Mayor Marijo Klement, as well as the President of the County Assembly, Dinko Begovic, also arrived, according to page of Virovitica-Podravina County.
– A larger amount of rain fell, over 75 liters. At 6 o’clock when we went out to the field, our dam was not overwhelmed. Now, unfortunately, the water goes over the retention dam, which means that there is just over 9 meters of water there. The water came to the first houses, and Stjepan Radic Street in Orahovica is currently closed. Accordingly, we decided to include civil protection, boys from the municipal and firefighters, in order to start filling the bags and doing everything in our power to help the threatened – they said at the session.
The Vucica River in the town of Orahovica reached almost the asphalt itself. King Zvonimir Street was also closed, in which the aforementioned river poured on certain parts. It is a difficult condition of Dalmatinska Street, where there are four or five houses underwater, they add. People stayed in the houses and urgent evacuation is needed from the same, according to the county.
The most critical is in the area of Orahovica and the municipality of Zdenci.
– We visited the terrain with Mayor Risher and gained insight into the complete situation. A boat was also requested, which has probably already arrived from JVP Slatina, mostly because of the five houses mentioned above.
