The Central Electoral Bureau decided on Friday to register the independent candidacy of Victor Ponta in the presidential elections in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

« From the analysis of the candidacy file of Mr. Ponta Victor-Viorel it was found that it contains the documents provided by Decision no. 2D/26.02.2025 regarding the documents to be submitted by the political parties, the political alliances, the electoral alliances, the organizations of the citizens belonging to the national minorities and the independent candidates for registering the candidates and electoral signs for the elections for the President of Romania in 2025 ”, the BEC decision states.

The BEC also found that Ponta's candidacy file was accompanied by the original supporters' lists, with the legal requirement regarding the minimum number of support signatures, namely at least 200,000 voters being met.

« I thank the VP2025 team, who has impeccably prepared the candidacy file! Now we go further and win! We put Romania in the first place! Gold and I could complain when BEC blocked Călin Georgescu's candidacy. Today they voted to block my candidacy, although I fulfilled all the legal conditions! Pharisees, are you not afraid not to beat you? ”Ponta wrote on Facebook.

So far, BEC has decided to register the candidates of Nicuşor Dan (independent), Crin Antonescu (Romania before) and Victor Ponta (independent).

Also, the bulb is to be pronounced on the registration of the candidates submitted by: Elena Lasconi (USR), Diana Şoşoaca (Sos Romania), George Simion (Aur), Lavinia Şandru, Cristian Terheş (Romanian Conservative National Party), Paul Ispas (independent) and John – Ion Banu – Muscel (independent).

At the same time, BEC rejected the registration of the candidates of Călin Georgescu, Petru Mîndru (twice), Maria Marcu (twice) and Ion Popa, as independent.

The term until the parties, alliances, organizations of citizens belonging to national minorities and independent candidates can also submit, at the Central Electoral Bureau, the candidates for the presidential elections expire on Saturday, at 24:00, according to the calendar approved by the Government.
