Petition with more than 27,000 signatures wants to autonomize a crime of femicide

Activist Francisca de Magalhães Barros, along with her group “for a fairer country”, wants to autonomize the crime of feminicide in a situation of domestic violence.

The goal is to “demand more severe penalties and more effective protection for children in the same context, as for the level of sexual crimes against women to make violation in a public crime, with Portugal being the only country that signs the Istanbul convention the only one not to do so!” Says a note, sent Thursday to sunrise.

The group has important figures from the Portuguese society, such as Manuela Ramalho Eanes (Honorary President IAC and former First Lady), Rui Pereira (former Minister and Jurist) António Garcia Pereira (lawyer), Dulce Rocha (former president of IAC, jurist), Isabel Aguiar Branco (lawyer) and Clara Sottomayor (jurist) and is supported by a huge slice of artists from the most diverse areas: Markl, Isabel Abreu, Joana Seixas, João Reis, Ana Bacalhau, Miguel Raposo, Marisa Liz, Diogo Branco, Susana Costa, Marta Nunes, Paula Cosme Pinto, Miguel Costa, Joana Azevedo, Lúcia Garcia, Manuela Couto, Sofia Ribeiro, Luana Piovani, Luisa Barbosa: Sónia Tavares; Paulo Furtado; Carolina Deslandes; Patrícia Reis; Sofia Arruda; Albano Jerónimo; Maria Caetano Vila Lobos.
