Peter’s Church finds an ancient coloring and ringing fragment / day

« The unusual finding demonstrates the possible splendor of the interior of St. Peter’s Church. It has not been ascetic and gray, but made in bright, bold colors, » the restorer Juris Pavlovs tells the brick fragment.

The masonry fragment, found at a depth of about 1.5 meters, has used the ancient craftsmen to build the foundation of the tower as a secondary building material.

The National Cultural Heritage Bureau also confirms that the fragment of the vault brick with the preserved polychromo is a valuable discovery. It expresses gratitude to restorers and archaeologists for their careful approach and timely reporting of the finding. Given that St. The Peter’s Church has repeatedly suffered in fires and rebuilt, each fragment of interior decoration gives valuable evidence of the historic appearance of the building, the institution’s experts emphasize.

The finding in the future would be a valuable exhibit at the St. Peter’s Church Museum. The Board hopes that the historical testimony will continue to be collected and analyzed during the study, which will help to explore the historic story of the Church. Findings highlighted from the ground are currently under the supervision of restorers.

According to the restorer Juris Pavlovs, at the end of the geotechnical research of the church, the foundation is underway, both inside and outside it, so that the designers have a clear idea of the basis for the state of the restoration work.

The foundations of church work do not affect, it is fully open to visitors. After studying the foundation in May, it is planned to continue the renovation of the church facade.

The new owner of the church, the foundation of the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church and the German St. Peter’s Church, has planned an ambitious renovation of the church, which the German Parliament has allocated more than EUR 33 million. Along with religious activities, there is a planned creation of new premises for exhibitions, concerts, conferences, and the church tower and organ will be restored, but the issue of land must be addressed for further progress.

Renewal work The Peter’s Church will continue to be gradual, maintaining the church open to visitors. Large transformation work could be started next year, as design and document matching will take time.
