Peter Wolodarski: Release Joakim Medin Free

The accusations that Turkey aim at Swedish journalist Joakim Medin are difficult to take seriously, if it were not because the consequences of them are already serious.

Violation of President Erdogan? Terrorist crime?

The Turkish head of state is certainly Europe’s perhaps most easily offended, notorious for its grumpy mood and authoritarian whims. But on the basis of basic human rights, it is only possible to consider the act in one way: as unacceptable and ominous.

Sweden’s new NATOallied Turkey Have long put in systems to imprison journalists. In the case of Joakim Medin, the repression takes a step further. The authorities give up on a foreign journalist, without blaming him for having committed any crime in Turkey.

It all smells like an ordering job from the regime, which DN’s correspondent Nathan Shachar noted earlier this week. The purpose is to scare other journalists. To make them think before they comment on the situation in the country. Yes, preferably of all: to silence.

The representative of the attached fist Have always feared the words and truth. Turkey’s tough methods are neither new nor unique, they are mostly a disappointing expression of the authoritarian trend of our time.

Joakim Medin has had the audacity to speak clear language. He deserves all support – and that we who this week viewed the judicial charging at a distance continues to speak precisely.

Release Joakim free.

Together with some of the world’s leading media companies in the network « One Free Press Coalition » DN is noted today ten imprisoned journalists. Joakim Medin’s name is on the list.
