Period of uncertainty? / Day

On this date, the largest city in Istanbul was carried out by a police operation that detained the popular Mayor of this city on the screen Imamoglu and even more than a hundred people. (A total of 107 arrest warrants were issued.) The prosecutor's office has made two types of charges for them – corruption, bribery and machinations with purchases in Matia in Istanbul, as well as contacts with the Kurdistan Workers' Party (CSP), which has been recognized as a terrorist organization in Turkey.

The opposition, and first of all, the Republican People's Party (Kemalists), represented by Imamoglu, calls these arrests as a « country coup », believing that President Reggie Tajip Erdogan is thus getting rid of his main rival, who has a very good chance of becoming the next Turkish president. Erdogan's involvement with the authority denies that it is only an investigation into the prosecutor's office.

The news of the arrest of imamogles and other opponents, along with extensive protests, has also responded to the financial markets. The Turkish lira course has fallen by 11% (and national banks were forced to sell eight billion in just one day, not all over the US dollar to prevent further decline in this course), while the National Stock Exchange index Bist 100 drops by 7%.

At the same time, the parallels between the last and the late 1990s are drawn in Turkey, when Kemalists arrested the then Istanbul Mayor Erdogan for propagating Islamism ideas. This arrest made Erdogan extremely popular and slightly later allowed him to win the presidential election. Now, supporters of Imamoglu hope the same scenario will repeat with their leader.

As far as the protests are currently concerned, they are of the opinion that the current president will be able to suppress control over power structures. However, intentions to introduce the external administration (kayyım) in the Matrija of Istanbul combined with increasing economic problems and the fatigue of the population from various types of imperial plans promise Turkey's increasing instability. It is not excluded that the country will fall into an uncertainty period for several years, and even the arrival of imamogls in power, repeating the 90s scenario, will hardly make political confrontation less.
