Employment cuts are accompanied by the acquisition of Electricity at the Icelandic Film School. Electricity met today with the students and staff of the school.

However, according to Þór Pálsson, the headmaster of the electrical education, there is optimism and positivity among teachers and students about the future of the study.

It was reported last week that Electricity took over the operation of the film school after the school went into bankruptcy proceedings at the end of March.

Students are pleased to get to complete the semester

« The meetings went very well. Everyone is optimistic and positive about the project ahead, » says Thor in a conversation with mbl.is.

He adds that students are naturally pleased to have the opportunity to complete the semester according to the original plan.

Bit hardest on permanent staff

Thor also says that everyone has been aware that the aim is to continue on the path of the school. However, cuts need to be made, especially among permanent employees. However, emphasis is placed on the fact that services to students are not impaired.

He says permanent employees have received guidance from the Electricity Union on how to apply for their rights to both the school’s bankruptcy estate as well as the Wage Guarantee Fund.

He also states that contractors who are teaching will continue their work, as with the teaching that has already been organized.

« This may be hardened with permanent staff because we naturally have a study counselor, office, office manager and accounting. It’s all about us and we don’t need it. »

Ready to talk to the authorities of the sequel

Paul says, however, the future is bright for the program, and no doubt staff will continue to work this fall.

So it is clear that you would like to keep your studies going after summer?

« It is completely available and has always been available. We are quite ready to discuss it with the authorities that want to discuss with us, about the continuation of film studies in Iceland. »

Teaching begins next Monday

Work is currently underway to create facilities for over 50 students of the school in the premises of Electricity at Studio Syria in Vatnagörður where computers, chairs and tables will be installed.

As a result, teaching will be delayed by almost a week and will start next Monday.

« Everyone is informed that there is a week of delay in everything. Both projects that have been dated, final divisions and graduation. But another should just keep the sea. »
