The press: You were the first to point out the outline deficit last year. At that time there was a lot of criticism from the Ministry of Finance. Are the figures that are available now?

Christoph Badelt: At that time it was a question of whether the deficit is above the three percent limit. We always assumed that in the fiscal council. That it is now so high (4.7 percent, note) is, I would not have expected that either. Nevertheless, I don’t feel any satisfaction here, that would be childish. At the same time, however, I find it unfair that the former finance minister (Magnus Brunner, note) now wants to blame the economic research institute. It’s not okay.

Why is the deficit significantly higher than expected? Is it just the lower growth or are the expenses higher?
