Anna Weidenholzer writes of aunts, nephews, strangers and locals in the four seasons in her narrative band « Here my potato heart drives » in a spectacular way.

With a book from eight intertwined stories, the author Anna Weidenholzer, born in Linz in 1984, made her literary debut in 2010. And what lucky: After three extremely well -discussed novels, with which she was nominated for the price of the Leipzig Book Fair and the German Book Prize, she is now returning to this type of gene with the anthology « Here my potato heart is driven ».

Pensioners' home, foreign pension and outdoor pool

However, “anthology” is not the right term for this compositional masterpiece, which has thrown the form of novels like a ballast that has become useless. The book comprises 29 texts that are between one and a maximum of 16 pages long, and is divided into four sections that correspond to the expiry of a full year. Even the headings establish an absolute accuracy. Accordingly, « seventeen people in winter », « fifteen people in spring », « twenty -seven people in summer » and « twenty -two people in autumn » are offered.

I have not counted now whether the above -mentioned number of people actually occurs in the individual stories assigned to the respective season. Some figures appear in several places, and the individual texts are also artistically connected across the staff. There are repeated motives and certain rooms are entered a second or third time. A pensioner home, a foreign pension, an outdoor pool and an entire village in the Alps occur again and again.

Shortest mood pictures

Neighbors perspective each other from two different angles, aunts and nephews, strangers and locals cross the paths, and lonely get in traces for a short time. Whole sentences or individual words in the last paragraph of one text will be picked up again at the beginning of the following. It is as if all of these stories that reach down to the shortest of moods and, as such, hardly carry a narration, are tuned to a common basic tone.
