Pedro Almodovar’s incendiary speech
The Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar He harshly criticized American leader Donald Trump when he accepted the 50th annual Chaplin award assigned by Film at Lincoln Center, which was awarded in Manhattan on Monday night, informs Variety magazine.

Pedro Almodovar also spoke about the rights of trans persons who are threatened by the Trump administration and spoke about the events in the first part of his life that helped him to train as a director. By increasing Francisco Franco’s fascism, Almodovar said that the films gave him an escape form. As his native country, Spain, embraced democratic ideals in the late 1970s and early 1980s, he had the chance to assert himself as a director.
« It is impossible to explain what that feeling of absolute freedom meant for a young man who wanted to make films, » said the Spanish filmmaker.
He also mentioned until the current that affected his native country on Monday: « I am very worried about what is happening in Spain. As you probably know, there is a current that affects the whole country. So my thoughts are with everyone affected by this situation. »
