Peace sees progress in security – « real danger » for Europe

Prime Minister Luc Frieden (CSV) sees progress in the security architecture of Europe after participating in the summit of 31 supporters of Ukraine in Paris. « Today we defined our strategy how we clarify the overall question of security in Europe in the near future, » Frieden told the « Luxembourg word » on his return trip from France. The leadership is based on France and Great Britain.

The broad alliance of EU countries and non-member countries such as Great Britain, Norway and Iceland share a common vision of a just peace: « That is why we have spoken a lot about the security for the next 20 or 30 years, » said the Prime Minister.

However, Peace avoided the concept of a “coalition of the willing” used by host Emmanuel Macron, which had aroused negative connotations with many observers. The alliance of the then US President George W. Russia’s President Putin showed no real interest in peace negotiations, said Frieden. Europe must therefore ensure its security in a complementary way. In Paris, he had indicated that not all alliance partners make the same military purchases, « but that we see: What can one do better than the other? » In the coming weeks, there will be joint operational planning at the level of the specialist ministers. Luxembourg could set accents in the area of ​​satellite technology, for example.

France President Emmanuel Macron spoke of a so -called « coalition of the willing » after the consultations. There was no agreement at the summit to secure European armed forces to secure a possible ceasefire in Ukraine.

The use of these troops is a British-French proposal, said Macron. « He is desired by Ukraine and also supported by several EU member states who have expressed their willingness to join him. » However, the proposal was not accepted unanimously, said Macron.

London and Paris send army cheers in Ukraine

The heads of staff from France and Great Britain traveled to Ukraine in the next few days to check the military requirements, Macron said. Ukraine has a very clear idea of ​​the needs and the critical areas in which they wanted to use these European forces.

In exchange among the military, places, the number of forces and the capacities would be determined. « So nothing is excluded at the present time and we look at the sea, air and land forces, » said Macron.
