Peace Agreement is ready for signature / day
In September 2023, Azerbaijan occupied more than 30 -year -old Armenian « de facto » Independent Mountain Karabakh Republic, which it considered its separatist region. Almost all Mountain Karabakh residents – over 100,000 people – left the regions.
Armenia and Azerbaijan have repeatedly stated that a comprehensive peace treaty, which ends the long -term hostility, could be achieved, but that the talks had failed to make a breakthrough.
« The negotiation process on the text of the peace agreement with Armenia has been completed, » Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeihun Bairamov told reporters.
« Armenia has adopted Azerbaijan's proposals for two previously unresolved articles of the peace treaty, » he added.
The Armenian Foreign Ministry later confirmed this in a statement stating that the negotiations on the draft contract had been completed and the peace agreement was ready for signature.
However, recalling the long -term tension, Armenia criticized Azerbaijan for making a unilateral statement.
Yerevan said it was ready to start talks with Azerbaijan on the dates and place of signing the agreement.
At the end of January, Armenian Prime Minister Nicholas Pasinian announced that no agreement had not yet been reached from 17 Peace Treaty project.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said in a speech in Parliament on Wednesday that the solution had not yet been resolved in connection with two points.
One of the main issues was the disagreement about the non -positioning of third parties along the common border of the countries, Pasinian said.
He called for the deployment of such forces at the border sections where demarcation has already been carried out.
There were also disagreements about the plans of both parties to withdraw proceedings from international judicial authorities.
The Azerbaijan Foreign Minister also said on Thursday that the next one it expects from Armenia was amendments to the Constitution, repeating the claim of Baku from the Armenian Constitution to delete a reference to the declaration of independence expressing territorial claims to Karabakh.
Any such amendment to the Armenian Constitution would require a referendum.
Yerevan has recognized Baku's sovereignty over Mountain Karabakh, and this decision was considered the first important step towards normalization.
