Patient focus and agricultural policy – altaposten.no
When I was invited by the government to participate in an agreement on the principles of figures, etc. in the agricultural policy, I answered « no ». I found nothing about Northern Norway in the agreement and it was therefore not interesting for me to join. I am a single representative and of course have to work thoroughly in all matters, but especially in cases where I am a contracting party.
My goal for the job I do at the Storting is to use my opportunity as a parliamentary representative to point out direction for Finnmark and for Northern Norway. What positive measures are it possible to get a majority for? So when I get a breakthrough for important issues for Northern Norway, I can’t jump off-and say I’m not interested.
What we did was thus to get an agreement in place before the 2025 negotiations begin. For me, it was important to get point 5 in the agreement in Meld. St. 10, with a clarification of Northern Norway being prioritized. Without that clarification, I would not join the agreement, but voted on the matter in the usual way in the Storting. The text in proposal # 5 of the setting states:
« The Storting asks the government to have a strong priority of Northern Norway in the agricultural settlement 2025. »
I explained this in my speech to the Storting on Tuesday. I also pointed out that many farmers know what it means to build a barn, house or wood shed. And at the bottom of all buildings is a building sole, which you build on. And that is the building sole that we have got an agreement on before the agricultural negotiations begin in the spring.
« It’s far this country. Most of it is north, ”says Rolf Jacobsen.
There are several parties, including H and Frp, who believe that the agreement does not respect the Negotiation Institute. To that I would say: It may seem that more people here in the Storting have not been organized and worked actively with negotiations in working life. Norway is one of the few countries, possibly the only country globally, where agriculture has negotiating rights with the state. So we negotiate at a table – and do not throw potatoes, eggs or tomatoes. I wonder what relationship agriculture would have in Norway if agriculture did not have a negotiating opportunity that we take care of.
Several who contacted are a member of the Bondelaget, but it was also good to get positive messages from several who are members of the farmer and smallholder teams in Finnmark. On the basis of the direction that is now the basis, it is up to the farmers’ dealers to create a good deal for their members. I have great faith that they will do a good job. Good luck.
