Passover’s red egg and its symbolism

The Easter holiday is symbolized by the red Easter egg and Easter bread.

Easter’s red egg is the main symbol of this holiday that symbolizes life. The Easter egg is as old as Christianity, so the church has accepted it as a symbol of the resurrection of Christ.

But why exactly one egg?

The egg symbolizes life, which is closed and sleepy within its peel, which at the moment it explodes comes to light. The red egg color symbolizes the sacrifice and in the present case symbolizes the sacrifice of Christ, the symbolism of victory, joy and life. Thus the eggshell of the egg symbolizes the tomb of Christ, which opened and gave life.
But for the red egg there is also a tradition of the Church: when Mary Magdalena, after the Resurrection of Christ, went to Pilate to notify the event and brought them as a gift of white eggs, according to the custom, he said: The red the eggs that brought, the red, the red. And surprisingly, the eggs became red immediately.

Based on ancient traditions, in the imaginations of many peoples, the egg symbolizes the beginning and the source of life. Based on the myths of the Egyptians, Indians, Babylonians, Greeks and Chinese from the egg, the universe is born and develops. In Bulgarian culture, there are many traces of egg -related imaginations. In some of their texts, the sun is defined as a divine egg, in others time is the chicken while the eggs are the stars, made from it.

In popular beliefs and traditions, the egg possesses a magical force. But the most famous symbolism is what is described as the Easter egg, which disrupts evil magic. Based on the tradition, the eggs are dyed on the big Thursday by the oldest of the family. Before coloring, the woman of the house lights up a candle and crosss with the words: God forbid, the weather again wait for the red egg!

The first egg is necessarily red and wiped with the lips of new children and brides, to be healthy, beautiful and protected from the « evil eye ». Easter’s red egg is placed in every home to bring health and well -being. With it begins the first eating, for the first time eating the red egg after the long Lent.

But in the tradition of Christianity, especially in recent years, the egg is not only red in red but also in other colors. The use of other colors symbolizes the colors of spring and sunlight.

Their coloring in many colors is more preferred by Catholic Christian believers, while the Orthodox stay fanatical in the face of this egg paint process. For them the essence of the symbolism lies in the red color.

In addition to the egg, it is also Easter bread, which is cooked and eaten at this holiday.
