“Portugal! Portugal!”, Hundreds of crazy supporters in the barrier at the Barrière De Saint-Gilles in the night from Sunday to Monday, shortly after the victory of Portugal in Spain in the final of the Nations League.

As in the major football evenings, the Portuguese community quickly gathered in this neighborhood of Brussels. Some came from the Café New Juventude – a famous hotspot for Portuguese football fans – others arrived on foot, by car, scooter or motorcycle, waving with flags and smoke flares.
« We were not a favorite, but we believed in it, » shouts Miguel, euphoric. « It was perhaps the last match of Cristiano Ronaldo for Portugal. He had to close with a title! »
In a tense but festive atmosphere, the supporters followed the penalty shootout series with held breath. At every Portuguese goal, the neighborhood burst into joy, while it became mouse silent with the Spanish hits. When Diogo Costa stopped the decisive penalty, the party joy broke completely.
Historing cars took over from the songs. Tram traffic was briefly blocked, but fans eventually passed the vehicles without significant incidents.
Portugal won 5-3 after penalties, after a 2-2 draw in Munich, and thus achieved his second Nations League title after that of 2019.
