The 39-year-old partner of the woman who was found dead on Tuesday morning in their home in the Molentjesstraat in Kooigem has been released without conditions.

The public prosecutor that conducts an investigation into the case keeps it a suspicious death but chooses not to comment for the time being. Not about the cause of death and not about the circumstances. « He was interrogated by the police the same evening and spent a few nights in jail, » says the man Pieterjan Dens’s lawyer. « But this morning he was released. He was not suspected. »

« My client already denies all involvement, » says Dens. « He is very bad about the death of his girlfriend with whom he was together for ten years. The house has not yet been released, he has been voluntarily admitted after his release. »

The couple has two children who have been placed for a while and did not live in the Molentjesstraat for a while. On Tuesday around 10.30 am the man banged his neighbor’s door because he found his 36-year-old girlfriend lifeless in bed. Moments later, the emergency services and the police arrived that he had called himself.

The question remains exactly what the woman died of. « There are no external traces of violence on the body. The autopsy that was performed on Wednesday evening apparently did not bring no relief, » said the lawyer. The police and the court still keep it a suspicious death. « There is a chance that he will be questioned later about the facts. I can’t and wants to say nothing about the allusion that it is made that death would have to do with the use of drugs. » (BDW)
