Part of the reception in technical specialties will be bound by matriculation in mathematics
The Ministry of Education and Science (MES) wants to bind part of the admission in the direction of « Computer and Communication Technology » with a compulsory maturity of mathematics. The agency also plans scholarships for students who have been accepted in technical specialties with matriculation or candidate exam in mathematics, physics or chemistry. This was announced by the press center of the ministry after a meeting of the Minister of Education Krasimir Valchev with rectors of technical higher education institutions.
The Minister has discussed with the rectors with measures to increase interest in applying with mathematics, physics and chemistry. According to the Minister, one of the founded threats to economic development in the future is precisely the low results in mathematics and natural sciences and the small number of adults who appear to these matriculation.
The agency wants to bind a certain percentage of admission to the desired professional fields such as « Computer and Communication Technology » with maturity in mathematics. Higher schools are considering increasing the weight of mathematics assessment when forming a reception ball and thus encouraging candidate students to prepare for a math exam.
State stops free training for some of the future educators
The ministry also provides for additional scholarships for students in deficiency specialties for which there is a shortage of qualified personnel, such as nuclear energy and hydro construction. Minister Valchev emphasized that this list can be expanded and the idea is that the size of the scholarships in these areas should be much more attractive.

Mandatory matriculation in mathematics is supported by technical higher education institutions, but at the moment the focus is other measures to promote interest in the subject, the ministry said.
