Parents now warn against life -threatening trend among young
Renna’s parents, Dana and Aaron O’Rourke, have since her death dedicated to raising awareness of the life -threatening trend and warns other families.
« She was lively, caring and loyal. We don’t have children to bury them, » mother Dana told the American media AZ Family.
The father, Aaron, has also linked some words to his daughter’s death.
« She always said, ‘I’ll be famous, Dad. You just have to see.’ And she was – just not the way we had hoped. «
The family describes how Renna never regained consciousness after the incident and spent seven days in a respirator before she was declared dead. And it now causes parents to issue a warning.
« It requires nothing ID, it is odor -free and it cannot be traced in regular drug tests. It makes it extremely accessible to young people. »
Dr. Randy Weisman, chief physician at the intensive care unit at Honorhealth Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center, explains the medical risk:
« When they inhale these chemicals, they displace the oxygen in the body. In a few seconds, it can lead to cardiac arrest, liver failure and lung damage – and at worst dead. »
He emphasizes that Renna is not the only case.
« We’ve seen several teens who have succumbed to the same. It’s a real epidemic in silence. »
To honor Renna’s memory and help others, the family has set up a Gofundme page where so far over $ 10,000 has been collected. The amount will cover both hospital bills, burial expenses, therapy for the survivors – and not least information work on the dangers of inhalation of aerosols.
