A couple of endangered giant turtles, about 100 years, living at the Filadelphia Zoo for the first time.
« We are happy » because of the arrival of the world of four cubs whose parents are Abrazo and Momi, a couple of Galapagogical Turtles from West Santa Cruza, was announced from the Zoo.
These are the first tortoise cubs from Galapagos in the history of the Zoo, which exists for more than 150 years.
Momi arrived in 1932. years, and so far it has not been recorded that some Galapago turtle has become a mother for the first time.
Galapago turtles from the western Santa Cruza are a vulnerable species in nature, and less than 50 copies of the type of type live in American zoos.
The first small tortoises hatched 27. February, and others soon arrived.
The animal care team accompanies the remaining eggs from which more cubs could be hatched over the next week.
The four cubs have between 70 and 80 grams.
Visitors can’t see the cubs right now because they are in the garden for reptiles and the amphibian, where they « eat and grow, » they said from the zoo.
