Pairi Daiza welcomes three golden stumping key monkeys soon, more specifically of a subspecies that appears in the Chinese Qinling Mountains. According to the Hainaut zoo, it is the first time that the ‘Rhinopithecus Roxellana QinlingenSis’, as the scientific name of the monkey reads, will be shown outside of China.
After the subspecies from the province of Hubei (Rhinopithecus Roxellana Hubeiensis), the Qinling monkeys are the rarest and most endangered subspecies of the Golden Stump Noses, with an estimated population of approximately 4,000. « They are much rarer than their relatives from Sichuan, which can be seen worldwide in a few zoos, » explains Pairi Daiza. « They have never left their original habitat and accompanying nature conservation center in history. »
The animal park therefore calls the arrival of the three Qinlingapen a « revolution ». That they will be shown in Belgium is possible through a scientific partnership of Pairi Daiza with the China Wildlife Conservation Association (CWCA). As a result of that collaboration, the animal park in Brugelette also collects giant pandas.
According to Pairi Daiza, the three Golden Stompneusen monkeys will be « very soon » to be admired in a new territory specially designed for them.
