Pahor is no longer a statesman but an entrepreneur serving lobbies

A recent interview of a former the President of the Republic Borut Pahor with the leader Jože Možina It still echoes strongly. The first president of Slovenia also sharply responded to his statements. Milan Kucanwho also took Pahor in the late 1980s to work at the Central Committee.

In this time podcast From Wednesday to Wednesday are commentators Or Žerdin and John Markeš broke the background of this controversy, which reveals deep differences in the conception of politics and statehood.

The focal point of the debate became Pahor’s statement of genocide in Gaza, saying that we can only talk about it when it is confirmed by a court decision. Markes believes that this statement cannot be understood without a broader context: « He simply in an international economic lobby has to say words that will not prevent him, say at some IPO or at a Jewish bank. »

According to him, Borut Pahor is now no longer behaving as a statesman, but as an entrepreneur who « takes the brand of a former president » and capitalizes him through the London club that markets it around the world. He got the impression, « as if he were Pahor, not paid for what he said about genocide, but that he guessed what he had to say in order to benefit him business. »

On the other hand, according to Markeševo, the Kucan’s appearance in the show Marcela Štefančič showed a fundamental difference. Kucan, who was « decent critical » to Pahor, still behaves as a statesman after Markes.

He raised the issue of gauze to a higher level when he said that it was a « civilizational issue beyond a low -type politicization » and « humanity. » He made it clear that he did not agree with Pahor’s position. Markeš praises Pahor’s posture for post -war burial grounds and criticism Zoran Jankovicbut points out that the gauze issue is obvious between them.

Who are the uncles from the background?

The conversation was inevitably applied to the famous « Uncle from the background », which, as Zerdin remembers, invented Borut Pahor. This happened when a group of approximately 25 influential citizens, among whom Kucan was the initiator France Pumpkinaddressed Zoran Jankovic to run in parliamentary elections. At the time, Pahor hinted at « foggy figures », although people stood with their names for the initiative.

Markesh points out that Pahor uses this story to justify his own failures. « Borut Pahor said that as a Prime Minister he could never do something as he would like, because his uncles from the background prevented him from it. » If you couldn’t rule, why did you insist on being ruled?

Markesh believes that today the real uncles from the background are elsewhere: “Uncle from the background is now dollar and euro and local capital. These are real uncles from the background and they work. « In his opinion, political uncles are a » non -existent notion « , because they would not talk about them so if they still had power. It is precisely the one who speaks the loudest speaking, it is precisely Janez Janša« He is one of the uncles from the background, » Markes concludes.

Slovenian disability and American autocracy

Although Slovenian internal policy is « disabled », Markes believes that it is still « in very good shape » compared to happening in the United States. The rumor of Kucana, in his estimation, is « inhaling fresh air » compared to what he does Donald Trump. As an example of autocratic tendencies, he recently cites the president’s activation of the national Guard and Marines in Los Angeles, although he has no jurisdiction.

In Markesh’s opinion, this act, which was described by the mayor of Angeles as unnecessary, « serves one and one purpose, namely the consolidation of autocracy, autocratic power with each subsequent move. »

It is precisely in the case of attitudes towards the Middle East that Markes will be decided by the future of Western civilization. He set a sharp thesis: “Where American democracy will remain or fall. (…) it will fall if they do not change their views on the gauze if they do not condemn and set Netanyahu and all his criminal Zionists before the war court.  » He must require war reparation and restoration of gauze by Israel, otherwise, in his opinion, « American democracy and civilization will collapse ».

Therefore, it seems crucial that the debate on Gaza has also opened in Slovenia, as it establishes standards of constitutionality and democracy based on the integration and respect of otherness. He concludes with the thought that Kucan listened to « not as an uncle from the background, but as someone who thinks strategic. »

He believes that with his criticism and emphasis on the risk of parties, Kucan may have indicated a way to prevent Janša victory in the coming elections – by empowering the current government, despite all its shortcomings. It is necessary, concluded Markeš, « that 75 percent of libertarian people will feel hope in some positive development of a democratic state. »
