Many dog owners get enough to look at when they become ‘parents’ for a little puppy – but it doesn’t apply to Norma, a basset that recently got millions of users on social media to laugh.
The video has received over 14.5 million views at Tiktok (@normathebasset), where the owner, 26-year-old Bailey, is being prepared for a walk. But the 4 -month -old Norma has completely different plans. She sits in a dog yard with the string tightened in the collar.
« Norma is incredibly expressive. I feel I can see when she judges me, » Bailey from Philadelphia tells Newsweek.
« She wants what she wants – when she wants it. It also applies if she wants to be outside or in. »

In this case, Norma lets out of the dog yard, but it is clear that she does not want to go for a walk.
« Puppies are very active, regardless of race. She often gets zoomies, plays the apport and loves long walks. But it always takes place on her terms, » she says.
« She is recently ‘graduated’ from her playyard, which we have now removed. She loves her new freedom – especially to lie down and relax on the couch. »
Newsweek talked about the funny video – which has also gained over 1.7 million likes in a short time – with dog trainer Joe Nutkins, who is accredited by The Kennel Club.
« Basset Hounds has the physique like a track dog: They are close to the ground with long ears that channel scent against the nose and help them follow a trail. When they walk a few steps, their sense of smell is hit by hundreds of different scents that require great mental processing, » he says.
« A regular walk of, for example, 20 minutes around the neighborhood is easy for a terrier, shepherd dog or labrador. But for a bassed hound – especially a puppy – it can be very exhausting as they also learn and experience new sounds, sight and smell. »
She also explains that Norma’s body type can make her tired quickly.
« With a long back it quickly becomes exhausting to grow as a puppy because joints and muscles work hard to support the body. When you need extra support, you carefully choose what activities you want to spend energy on, » he says.
So far, the video – which has been shared with the text ‘Stubborn is an understatement’ – has received over 14,000 comments from users on social media.
« First mistake was to call her Norma. It’s an indoor name. She’s a librarian, » wrote one user while another wrote, « She puts ‘no’ in Norma. »
« Norma is 99 years old, » it sounded from a third, while a fourth wrote, « She looks at the cage as if, ‘I’m out’. »
