Over 10,000 teachers were trained
Today (June 18th) the first phase of the National Teacher Professional Development Program has been completed where more than 10,000 teachers have been trained.
This program aims to increase the capacity of teachers in the priority fields of education: Albanian Languages, Mathematics, Science and Technology (Stem), as well as interdisciplinary skills.
The Minister of Education and Sports, Ogerta Manastirliu, closely followed one of the training that took place at the Faculty of History and Philology at the University of Tirana.
« I am pleased to assist today in one of the training where elementary education teachers are already at the end of the second day of the module training you are offering.
For this first phase for 2025, the University of Tirana has organized training for 2,351 teachers, including primary education teachers with the focus of improving the quality of reading in the framework of preparation for the international testing 2026.
Training was conducted by 200 lecturers of the seven higher education institutions (HEIs). The program contains some essential components, such as developing practical skills for the implementation of interactive methods in AMU and AML subjects; preparation for Albanian language reading skills for Pirls 2026; career orientation in social sciences; and strengthening mechanisms for preventing violence in schools through a module dedicated to school leaders, security officers and psychosocial staff.
Minister Manastirliu said that about 16,000 teachers are intended to be trained by the end of the year.
« For the Ministry of Education and Sports is a priority the increase in the capacity of our teachers and their continuing education. It remains a primary importance in the quality of education precisely the long -term support of teachers in terms of effective and innovative teaching training and methods included under the umbrella of a national professional development program with about 16 teachers. »
Speaking about the next phase of this program, Manastirliu said:
« We are also working on the next program 2026–2028, a cycle that will offer not only new continuing education modules and will have more compliance with the curriculum with which we are working, but above all to equip you with the necessary skills required by modern teaching. »
The National Teachers’ Professional Development Program is a program of the Ministry of Education and Sport, in cooperation with public universities, to build a sustainable training system in support of professional development of teachers and improving the quality of education in Albania.
