Outing young asylum seekers to the Efteling will no longer take place after criticism Minister Faber

An outing of the young asylum seekers from the Frisian Sint Annaparochie to the Efteling is canceled. After criticism from Minister Van Asylum and Migration Marjolein Faber (PVV), the Central Agency Asylum (COA) has decided to give substance to the day in a different way. The organization announced this to the ANP and Omroep NOS news agency.

The trip to the Efteling was the reasons that took place last year during an annual fair in the Frisian village. There were problems between young people from the area and residents of the asylum seekers center: three young men were injured in a stabbing and three residents of the asylum seekers center were arrested, reported Omrop Fryslan at the time.

Fixed jar for activities

To prevent incidents, therefore, on 17 May, the busiest day of the fair, an outing to the Efteling was planned for the youngest residents of the asylum seekers’ center. « They have an outing every year, » said A spokesperson for the COA earlier on Friday against NOS. « We have now planned that on the busiest day of the village festival. Last year there was a lot of unrest. We don’t want that again. See it as a precautionary measure. »

Although it was an annual activity, and according to the COA, the outing was paid from a fixed game for activities, Minister Faber said X Thursday evening of ‘a candy trip’ on ‘costs of the taxpayer’. She found it « on-from-Leg-Baar » and announced that she would talk to the COA.

Whether that conversation actually took place is not clear. The COA announced by means of a statement to ANP ‘in view of the current attention’ that it will give substance to the outing in a different way. Furthermore, the COA is ‘reluctant to communicate’ to no longer keep the ‘young people the subject of the news’.
