Our reviewer saw a fresh Duran Duran in the Sportpaleis: « It was moved, in the here and now, on the tones of that eternal youth »
Duran Duran is, if possible, more eighties than Ronald Reagan in leg warmers. The eyeliner was thick at the time, the hair was ramped and guitarist Andy Taylor – no longer on board – was caught on a sweat band. Their music evolved into a polonaise of accents: pop, synth, disco, glam, rock, new wave. Female fans melted, America – that British bands usually looked suspiciously, as if they came with a large import rate – melted and hit parades reserved the highest places. That was thanks to the sultry subcutaneous romance in their songs, but unlike some generations – you there, Spandau Ballet – had their plates more around the body than purely sentiment. A hundred million albums sold followed.
Pat on the back
Not that Duran Duran only got stuck in the past. Of Future Fits from 2021, of which opener Invisible On Monday evening also the largely filled Sportpaleis achieved, they scored pat shoulder knocks worldwide for their permanent relevance. The Tiktok generation is therefore not tapped, it also turned out in Antwerp. Again a polonaise there, this time in the audience, from neighborhood hair lines, disappeared hair lines and sweaters over shoulders with knotted sleeves. And chairs in midfield, because that shouts more comfortably after more than forty years. But that is not a value judgment: age is just a figure and it was by no means a farewell celebration of being youth and young. The concert would never smell to yesterday or the day before yesterday, and those seats soon gave to purely decor.

They kicked off with the hypnotic Night Boata ‘must hear’ that is often wrongly forgotten. Frontman Simon le Bon wore his white pants worthy, his rasy connotation never devalued the music for a moment. Shortly thereafter, the slider of the jukebox was completely open, with Hungry like the wolf and the James Bond track A View to a Kill. The visuals on the big screen went from a drug strip to a horror film, John Taylor shot with his bass so much that he could cope with children. « Play the fucking bass, john », called the audience. And or.
Bisums
Nite runner won a piece of Pet Shop Boys, the Funky Notoriousafter Le Bon’s Jaswissel, everyone reminded for a summer dance floor to make lightly drunk impression on that beautiful there in the corner. Careless Memories the last skeptics rocked home, Sunrise Rinsed the room firmly. In the meantime, Le Bon started coughing, sneezing and muzzle in almost every corner of the stage. But a pro does not make way. « Wider, baby, smile and you’ve just made a million. »
In the bis numbers the temperature was allowed to go up for a wonderful one-two. Save a prayerone of the most beautiful songs about an onenight stand and the sighing not to let the passion be overshadowed by feelings, warmed up. The Sportpaleis turned into tiles that were stuck, although those massive, floury smartphone lights from the audience were unnecessary: wild sex needs no atmosphere of station novels. Rio Should finally tap. « Moving on the Floor now, Babe. You’re a Bird of Paradise. » In the here and now, it was moved to the tones of that eternal youth.
Because you have read through here, another tip: the BBC series Classic albums spent an excellent episode at the Hitalbum Rio. It is neatly before watching YouTube, so take advantage of it.
