Artificial intelligence is a major change and we do not yet have the conceptual categories to think so. How to qualify these links with so -called conversational AIs? Are these « conversations »? To converse is like throwing a ball that comes back in an unpredictable way: there is game, friction, which we do not find in these exchanges. It is necessary to distinguish the notion of « relationship », which supposes a form of empathy and reciprocity, and that of « connection », a contact which is limited to an exchange of information. Can we create artificial empathy? Empathy requires putting oneself in the place of the other, to understand the other, the AI ​​cannot therefore be empathetic. And yet, the craze they meet is also explained by the dominant and erroneous idea that they are neutral and do better than humans.

The challenge today is to ensure that these connections do not replace relationships. AIs are designed to be predatory for our sociability. The risk is to reduce our links to interconnections. Hence the need to generalize the « Ethics by design » method, that is to say that ethical questions should not be considered only afterwards, but at all stages, from the design of these machines to their adoption in societies, passing through their manufacture.
