OT Forum – Theodorikakos: The government managed to gather the country’s finances

The development plan for sustainable investment and a durable economy was unraveled by Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos, speaking at the 5th OT Forum organized by the economic postman on « New Era for Capital Markets ».

Mr. Theodorikakos opened the debate, referring to the housing crisis: « The problem of accuracy first and foremost concerns the roof, and is a problem for the salaries living in rent. His salary does not allow them to buy a home or to bear the cost of a mortgage loan, « the minister said, saying that this was also one of the first things he said to the prime minister when he took over his portfolio.

He referred to the difficulties facing those who make 800-1000 euros, who hardly maintain themselves, and even more difficult if they want to have a family and children.

« A measure that helps, I will not claim to solve the problem, but it helps, is that it has been announced that every November they will receive a rent, » he said, while describing the phenomenon in our country, to say half a half of the rent as they receive: « 

Tourism and real estate

The Minister of Development said that all this has to do with the development model adopted by Greece, adding that the government has managed to gather the country’s finances, regain the credibility of the economy, and we can now « be seriously borrowing from markets ».

« Economic growth was mainly based on tourism and real estate, » he pointed out and highlighted the large regional development deficit observed in various parts of the country, forcing young people – mainly – to seek professional opportunities in Athens, enhancing the demand for home, and prices. A second factor – according to him – is divorces: « We have had 70,000 divorces lately and that means searching for new houses. »

The point is to go to a solid -based development development, such as industry and manufacturing, as well as innovation, he said.

The new development

Asked about the new development, he stressed that there would be a separate development regime for border areas, which is below 70% of the national media, so that young children stay there, to work, with proper investment and infrastructure and to build their future: Complete the next time and the integers will take place in October.

« What we have promised, we do this now. We also add two other regimes for the next fall: extroversion and new technologies and social entrepreneurship. We believe that in the province there are still people who want to revive traditional forms of economy, « he said, adding that what creates the specifications for attracting tourism. For the larger businesses, « the highest ceiling with which businesses can be boosted is 20 million euros ».

For Brain Gain

Referring to Brain Drain, he stressed that today there are people who are leaving, but there are people who return: « The goal is to have a stronger return and people to find something good here. I would like all Greeks to want to stay here. There is no other way to deal with demographics, « he explained, noting that the great challenges are to make an economy and a productive society to deal with the demographic: » If we do not succeed we will have no future. « 

By side of industry

Mr Theodorikakos stressed that in the development of the government the government adopts the important proposals of the industrialists: “We are in constant communication with them and institutionally. BSE is aware of our suggestions. We respect the role that entrepreneurs play. Without them there is no economy. « 

For the investigation

Finally, Mr. Theodorikakos stressed the research must be strengthened and supported, but not all kinds of research are the same: « I prefer the applied research, » he said. He revealed that soon with the Deputy Minister of Development, Research and Innovation, Stavros Kalafatis will announce the new National Council of Research, Technology and Innovation (ESESK) and will present the National Strategy for Research and Technology in two months.

« Transparency everywhere, for everyone and everything » is his motto and referred once again to the more than 1,400 2004 and 2011 investment plans that took money and never ended. They are now called upon to return the money: ’13 extensions have been given to the law of 2004. No other extension will be given. Those who did not give the money will give back the money, « he concluded.
