Oscar sent to Colombia on Tuesday
Oscars Anders Bocanegra Florez, a 17 -year -old Colombian boy, will be sent to Bogota in Colombia on Tuesday. From this, Svavar Jónsson, foster father of Oscars, reports to Post on Facebook.
Svavar expresses great disappointment with the Icelandic government in its post, and says the Children’s and Family Agency and the government’s minister decided not to protect the Oscar.
« We had never thought of the cruelty, resistance and sacrifice that this young boy has met with the Icelandic government for the sole reason to want to have a safe life in Iceland with his friends, foster parents, siblings and family he has acquired and surrounded as his own, » says Svavar.
He says sadly to see the nation’s senior rulers, « let it go uncomfortable on a foreign child in order to please his most common hardcore voters. » He says this is reminiscent of what is happening west of the Atlantic after a new leader took power and is likely to refer to Donald Trump’s US president.
« These are not the leaders I chose and this is also not the society I want to live in. This is a sad day for Oscar and for all our extended family and friends, but no less for Icelandic society, justice and governance in general. »
Says the system takes care of itself
Oscars’ issues in the Icelandic media have been discussed considerably. He fled to Iceland with his father in 2022 after Colombian criminals threatened them. Oscars’ father is said to have abused him and relinquished his custody.
In October last year, Oscar was sent out of the country with his father after receiving a refusal for protection in this country. Oscar ended one on the street in a bog for a month before the foster family returned to him. He has lived with his Icelandic foster parents since then, but they have fought for him to stay here.
« We have found out of her experience that the system takes care of itself and responds with full force and destroys all those who dare to threaten it. Perhaps Oscar would have had more potential if he had stood alone but had not had us to fight for his rights, » writes Svavar.
