Oscar 2025: The Academy awarded its awards tonight in Los Angeles
« Flood » (Flow) of Latvian artist Gints Silbalodis was awarded the best animated film. He had an extremely successful premiere in the « Special Look » program at the Cannes Festival and a rich festival life afterwards.
Among his honors so far are the Golden Globe for Best Animation Film, four awards from the prestigious Annimation Festival in Anecy, two nominations for the BAFTA Awards, a nomination for the prestigious European Audience Award « LUX ». « Flood » has been nominated for an Oscar and for the best foreign language film.
« This is the first time a movie from Latvia has been nominated, so it really means a lot to us, we are very inspired and we hope to go back soon, » said Gints Silbalodis.
The film is an apocalyptic picture, recreated in the best traditions of European animation and tells of the wonderful journey of a brave cat, which has been the victim of a great flood. She falls on a boat where a dog, lemur, Capibara and a bird are saved – and all together go in search of drought, in an attempt to survive among the dangers of the planet, covered with water, writes in his synopsis, and the film will have a special projection in Hall 1 of the National Palace of Culture within Sofia Film.
The Best Short Animation Award went to « The Shadow of the Cypress » by Iranian directors Josein Molayemie and Shirin Sohani, who said they had received a visa for the United States just a day ago so they could attend the ceremony.
