The Western strategy aimed at destroying Russia has failed, sanctions have not reached its goal, and Russia has prevented Ukraine from joining NATO, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said today.

« No one dares to admit it, but we have lost this war, » he said, adding that the Russian economy had not fallen apart.

Orban, at a meeting of the Presidents of the Parliaments of the European Union Member States and the President of the European Parliament in Budapest, said that despite this, Europe is still continuing the war and behaves as if victory was possible.

He said the world is in a state of transformation comparable to the birth of national states and Westphali peace. The mentality of the Western world is changing and Europeans must respond to this process, Orban said, assessing that Europe is unprepared.

« As if we wanted to solve the problems of the next decade with the answers from the previous decade, but the old truths are no longer functioning, the world has changed, and we, Europeans, have failed to follow that example, » he said.

Orban said several European countries want to provide additional support to Ukraine to continue the war. We have a different opinion, in our opinion, the longer the war, the more lives will be lost, the situation on the battlefield will be worse, he said.

Orban said the European Commission’s proposal to force Russian energy sources would simply destroy the Hungarian economy.

– Imagine if the price of energy for households and businesses suddenly doubled. Hungarian families will not be able to afford it, « Orban said, adding that the Hungarians want peace and want to be released as soon as possible.

The Hungarian prime minister said the EU had never accepted a country at war for good reason. In addition, Ukraine’s membership would be an economic burden that member states would not be able to submit, Orban said.

– The situation is different with Ukraine and we would be in trouble. Bad agreement. Agrarian crisis, unemployment, indebtedness, fall in living standards – he warned. Orban said that today Europe is rich and weak, and that this is the most dangerous combination, and therefore Europe must be strengthened.

– We, as members of the National Parliament, have a duty to play our role and we, the Hungarians, are ready to do so. Let’s make Europe big again – Orban concluded.
