Opportunities for deepening trade relations with the United States at the Mucunski – Rubio Meeting:

Foreign Minister and Foreign Trade Minister Timco Mucunski had a bilateral meeting with the US Secretary of State Marko Rubio today in Washington, which discussed the possibilities for further deepening trade relations, making a significant step and progress in reducing the process.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, the two interlocutors have confirmed the excellent cooperation between the two countries, which is based on common values, political interests and years of friendship.

« Minister Mucunski emphasized the Macedonian government’s commitment to promoting political dialogue with the United States, as well as the concrete commitment to institutionalizing the strategic partnership by implementing a joint action plan, » the statement said.

During the conversation, opportunities for further deepening trade relations were discussed, making a significant step and progress in order to reduce tariffs and the possibility of launching a free trade agreement. Minister Mucunski emphasized the Macedonian government’s openness to promote economic cooperation, attracting US investments and increasing the presence of US companies in the country.

Opinions on security cooperation within NATO were also exchanged, where our country continues to make an active contribution as a credible ally, with investments over two percent of GDP in the defense sector. Particular attention was paid to regional stability and development of the Western Balkans.

Minister Mucunski expressed gratitude for the constant support of the United States, with the conviction that the strategic partnership would continue to develop with even greater dynamics and concrete results, at bilateral, regional and global level.

– We are completing a visit by the United States with an important meeting with Secretary of State Marko Rubio, which once again confirmed the strong strategic connection between the two countries, the joint commitment to regional stability, our European integration, as well as investment in security and defense as NATO allies. From Secretary Rubio and on behalf of the US Administration, we have received firm assurance that our partnership and alliance remain crucial, seeing our country as an important factor for regional stability. Among other things, we discussed the next steps within the strategic dialogue and mutual cooperation – Minister Mucunski said.

In the spirit of strengthened partnerships, US support, Mucunski said, continues with increased intensity, especially in reform processes, strengthening democracy, the rule of law and the fight against corruption.

« In times of complex security challenges facing the world, we have concluded that it is crucial to continue working to maintain peace, stability and prosperity globally, » Minister Mucunski said after the meeting.
