Open the field of possibilities – Liberation
At the end of three years marked by inflation, the price constitutes, for the majority of French people, the main obstacle to the adoption of a quality diet. Ultimate paradox: Those who nourish us sometimes do not themselves have the means to eat properly. Can we collectively accept it?
Eating well should be a fundamental rightwhich does not stop at the consumption of five fruits and vegetables per day. It is a question of building a system capable of nourishing current and future generations, which respects living and biodiversity. Can we admit that our foods go around? Or do you need to throat them with pesticides to meet globalized demand?
This situation reflects the limits of our consumption model and calls for a deep transformation. Because the cheaper products, often the least respectful and with the sometimes proven harmful, have become the standard.
As long as we agree to market food produced en masse, at the other end of the world and with large strokes of chemicals, organic and local products will remain disadvantaged. Tons of foods travel thousands of kilometers, with a vertiginous environmental cost. This structural dependence weakens our local sectors and makes any food sovereignty illusory. And yet, to return The Origin’info logo compulsory is absent from the political agenda.
As long as products from the junk food industry will benefit from better promotion than quality products, the imbalance will continue. Ultra -formed products, rich in salt, sugars and inexpensive fat, flood media and rays. What if someone finally dared to make the Nutri-Score compulsory and prohibit advertising on the mostly rated products?
As long as large distribution will continue the price war, the accessibility of quality products will remain reduced. There is no pride in selling pork ribs at two euros per kilo. This price is destructive, unrelated to the real value of the product. The feeling of accessibility it gives is illusory: it is the wages of those who work, from the farm to the consumer’s cart, which serve as an adjustment variable. How many law will be necessary for the price to finally allow better remuneration throughout the value chain?
As long as we suggest that a local, organic and balanced food is the prerogative of the privileged, part of the population will continue to think that it is not for it. Yet bulk, local fruits and vegetables, seasonal and homemade are all accessibility vectors. Changing your food purchasing habits involves a cultural transformation which is not the sole responsibility of consumers. What signal, in the matter, When you remove the organic agency’s communication budget ?
All these mechanisms, because they dry up demand for virtuous products, feed a vicious circle. And for the most precarious households, it is the double penalty: these cheaper and poor quality products rhyme ultra -training with malnutrition, and precariousness with health problems.
However, there are operators who engage through virtuous initiatives. Together, they question our solidarity models, like the Social security of food which brings the right to quality food at the same level as the right to health. This is of course insufficient, but the initiative opens the field of possibilities. And refers us to our responsibility as a company, which on the one hand overflows with wealth, and on the other hand leaves so many people in misery. These examples must nourish our policies and influence economic actors. To define virtuous rules which force us to a more equitable, more united world … and more responsible.
