It was clear early that the discussion about Europe would be held hard in the SP. A week before the Federal Council officially presented the EU contracts, the pitch intensified. A few days before, the SVP had dragged halberds onto Rütli to summon Swiss independence. But since Cassis’s appearance, it has mainly been the supporters of the EU contracts that appear to be aggressive.

Nussbaumer also divides against his own

One of them is the Basel bidder SP National Councilor Eric Nussbaumer. In a Hauruck campaign, he quickly drums national parliamentarians together in front of the Bundeshaus. 60 politicians follow his call to start the EU debate. Most of them belong to the red-green camp. Federal Councilor Jans provokes SVP
